If I wasn’t coughing blood and sipping lemon and hot water yesterday whilst muddling through a backlog of emails back at work, I would have put on a party frock, donned my invite rosettes and rocked up to the PPQ show and then the after party later on.  This isn’t because I have a huge amount of love for PPQ but because as soon as I opened my trap about fashion slowing/calming down and getting a bit serious yesterday, PPQ came and slapped me in the face and said ‘Hey, girls still like to wear their 80’s prom dresses with pride.’  If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, is what I think about PPQ’s latest collection which was in fact a parade of prom princesses and also had an accompanying front row consisting of London’s natural prom dress-addicts (Peaches, Pixie Geldof, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Lily Allen).  This isn’t me showing masses of affection for the collection but in a weird sort of way, I can’t really fault the collection, the show and the after party as a whole, purely because it is so representative of young London, famous or not who are out gigging, drinking and riding night buses loudly.  It’s not romanticising anything and in fact, outfits seen at PPQ’s show will probably resonate on the streets more so than other collections simply because the tried and tested cute, short, flirty prom dress combo hasn’t really died out since vintage shops went into overdrive providing them in the 90’s.  So knock the celeb appearances at the show if you will but PPQ shouldn’t be knocked for reflecting a reality.

“Aspiring model Brooke Bogart” graced the cover of Page Six Magazine yesterday. Do you love how people aspiring to be models are like, the new models? It’s so…aspirational! So anyway, Brooke is the nineteen-year-old granddaughter of Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, and she’s here, says the magazine story, to take “her rightful place in the spotlight.” Is celebuspawn-spawn the new celebuspawn!? Looks like! “Some people think I’m a — what’s it called?–an heiress, because of who my grandparents are, but I’m not like that at all,” she says. And you sorta believe her! For one thing — more pix after the jump!! — is she even skinny enough to be an heiress/model? Not really!

Oscar Blandi created a non-traditional chignon for Faith Hill at the 2008 Grammy Awards-”We wanted a clean polished look to compliment Faith’s Valentino gown. I used an off-centered chignon that has a natural mess to it, with more curls and lots of definition. She looked absolutely beautiful.” Oscar Blandi.

So we were about to pick our new winner out of a (metaphorical) hat. (It’s actually more like a sack.) But then we thought: random is so weird! And then we thought: We’ll run five of the answers to the contest. Then, at the end of the week, we’ll have a one-day poll to see which recommendation people liked most. Yes! Yes! Yes! Kelly Caleche Eau de Toilette by Hermes is just what I’ve been searching for!

My collection of mostly spicy oriental fragrances was missing something more day, something more Spring. It needed to be a fragrance that was still complex and interesting, and could hold its own among the greats–Black Orchid and Allure Sensuelle.

I haven’t a clue what BB Dakota is and after clicking through to their website (two websites in fact which makes matters even more confusing…), I’m getting vibes of the US equivalent of New Look.  I even had the inclination to look up a BB Dakota store whilst I was in New York to see whether this floral dress spotted in the latest issue of Teen Vogue was available because at $60, I think we just about have a winner for THE designer spitting image award.  A zip, some strongly capped shoulders, a bright birdering on tacky floral print?  Could only allude to one season, one designer really…

I do try not to fall for the designer spits and seeing as this is somewhat out of my reach, not in price but in location, it would be great to have someone in the BB Dakota know check this one out to sleuth out it’s image spittiness….
