Angelique Morgan, the French woman who was most eager to strip down to her birthday suit for Bret Michaels on Rock of Love 2, is in NYC for Fashion Week and yesterday, she agreed to sit down and answer a few questions about her recent departure from the show, her career as an adult film actress, and just what’s a goin’ on with Bret’s hair. The entire experience was kinda surreal, but Angelique was super nice, fun and not in the least bit shy. Seriously, I loved her. Clip, by videographer Alex Goldberg, above.

A little late, but at least the new Toshiba laptop is still holding up and hasn’t died on me (I am in fact celebrating every single day the laptop lives with a thanksgiving ritual….). The day of the event arriveth last Wednesday and indeed there were jitters in the stomach. Nothing a heaping plate of French toast and maple syrup wouldn’t cure though - God Bless American breakfasts.
As I said, the day was spent Century21-ing and also introducing the boyf to the sprawling mass of a place that is Chinatown in New York. When I got back, it was like, make-over time! Gucci set up two hotel rooms designated for hair, make-up and manicures for their invited guests. Hair wasn’t the problem (sleek, straight, loose) but due to my past ‘pro’ make-up experiences, I was dreading the maquillage.
Thankfully, the guy got what I was all about (though because of my British accent, he did constantly insist that we were all eccentric Isabella Blow types and kept on saying ‘You’re British, you’re London - I get it!’). I explained to him the extravagance of the dress and that the make-up can’t be too OTT and he was like ‘I get it! I understand!’. Hurrah! A very sweet manicurist did my nails which has impressively still stayed put without too much chipping and if I’m honest, I’m now considering paying more attention to zee nailz because they do add a certain something to an outfit (just need to NOT blob it all over my clothes…).

Whilst I pretty much followed readers’ NYC shopping suggestions down to a tee, Century 21 wasn’t one of those places that I planned on visiting. I wasn’t up for a TJ/TK Maxx experience where you MIGHT stumble upon a designer gem in amongst the crap, especially on the day of the Gucci event where I was feeling a little unsettled as it was.
However, we did have to go in the direction of Lower Manhattan to Battery Park for the essential Statue of Liberty viewing (was the boyf’s first time to NYC, not mine - to answer a reader’s question…) so I thought I’d take a gander. The store might look a little crusty, in terms of interiors and in some cases a little retro with the slanted curly font highlighting four floors of designer discount joy but I think a trendy revamp would sort of defeat the point of the places; which is good old-fashioned elbowing bargain-hunting madness. Ok, it wasn’t madness but it was busy for a Wednesday afternoon (where other boutiques were quiet) and there were a lot of sharp looks going on especially in the shoe section. The bulk of people there were the middle-aged to elderly who seemed to have the smarts about this store as opposed to me who was just looking at random racks. In womenswear, it actually made it simpler for me that it was slim pickings for the US size 6 and below as it made it easier for me to search out stuff and so I came away with a Martin Margiela yellow satin dress and a Viktor & Rolf office dress, each at a sum of $50. The manicurist for the Gucci event wrinkled her nose when I told her of my purchases and said ‘But they’re last season’s stuff!’, which of course bothers me not a bit as my thoughts have always been ‘Seasons Schmeasons!’ (didn’t manage to perfect my NYC drawl…).

With the plethora of beauty goodies that grace the pages of this blog every day (over 1,000 posts now!), there are some products that are truly worth revisiting every so often. It looks like I have a number of new readers these days, so how about an re-introduction to one of my all time favorite “Holy Grail” products?
I first discovered a tinted moisturizer called DuWop Revolotion Face in an event gift bag nearly two years ago. At the time, I had never worn anything on my face save for concealer, a speck of powder, and the occasional bronzer. I was ready to pass along the tube to a friend, but decided to give it a whirl anyway…and now I haven’t been able to live without it.

![Weetzie Bat: The Book For Girls Who Ended Up Taking A Gay Dude To Prom [Fine Lines]](http://citypeoplefashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/165175.jpg)
Welcome to ‘Fine Lines’, the Friday feature in which we give a sentimental, sometimes-critical, far more wrinkled look at the children’s and YA books we loved in our youth. Today, YA author, former Gawker editor and ‘Fine Lines’ guest-writer Emily Gould rereads ‘Weetzie Bat’, Francesca Lia Block’s 1989 novel about a punk Los Angeles alternafamily.
Confession time: I’ve never in my life been to Los Angeles, and I hope I never have to go. It’s not because I hate Hills-style always-eyelinered girls and the idea of having to drive everywhere, though of course I do. It’s because ever since I was thirteen or so I’ve had a very specific dream-vision of LA in my head, and I don’t want to chance puncturing it. It’s a city where “you could buy tomahawks and plastic palm tree wallets at Farmer’s Market, and the wildest, cheapest cheese and bean and hot dog and pastrami burritos at Oki Dogs” and “there was a fountain that turned tropical soda-pop colors, and a canyon where Jim Morrison and Houdini used to live, and all-night potato knishes at Canter’s, and not too far away was Venice, with columns, and canals, even, like the real Venice but maybe cooler because of the surfers.”

![It’s Getting Serious: My First Week With Brendan, My “Boyfriend Pillow” [Test Runs]](http://citypeoplefashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/165172.jpg)
I enjoy a good cuddle in bed here and there, but for the most part, I can’t usually make it through the night without breaking away from the boy: I always begin to sweat, which makes our bodies stick together, which makes me incredibly uncomfortable. But still, there’s something to be said for those warm and fuzzy moments of cuddling with a guy before it gets all hot and sticky. There’s one position in particular that’s incredibly satisfying: when the dude lays on his back, and you curl up next to him, wedge yourself between his arm and his torso, and lay your head on his shoulder. I’d say that it’s the #1 thing I miss about having a boyfriend. So when readers alerted us to this disembodied arm/half-torso pillow called the “Boyfriend Pillow”, I didn’t find it as creepy as others did; it seemed to me like the perfect solution for those nights when it’s just a party of one. And it was: seriously, guys, I think I’m in love.
When I first took my Boyfriend Pillow out of the box, I was blown away by how soft he was. Putting my hand beneath his shirt, the actual pillow and miniature beads felt like I was touching clouds of fluff and his hand is a really nice silky felt fur. Initially, I feared that the buttons on his shirt would be bothersome, but they don’t register when we’re hugging at all. Read the rest of this entry »
