Got this adorable card from Vivienne Tam and just had to share.
Today is the first day of the Year of the Mouse (or the Rat, if we are being particular) in the lunar calendar. The Rat is the first sign of the Chinese zodiac and is associated with leaders, pioneers and conquerors.
To all of you celebrating today, I wish you lots of luck and happiness in the Year of the Mouse!

We recently were clued in to a little challenge that PurplePinkandOrange.com is doing - basically, you commit to cleaning/organizing an area in your house/apartment/studio/room, and you can win $25 from Amazon. You have to have a blog so you can post before and after pictures, and you have to make a to-do list so people can see that you really MEANT to leave that pile of clothes on the dog crate, it’s creative storage - not just an oversight.
But hey, we’re gonna do it - it’s the motivation we need, it’s a chance to win free money (close enough), and it commits us to actually DOING IT. Which is like motivation, but forced.

We’re not doing any work today, in honor of our lying liar of a boss who comes to the fucking office with acute, infectious bronchitis and then tells all of us it’s not communicable. Which is. Not. True. So! Here we sit, doing fuck all, but writing this, and staring at the wall, and thinking about whether we will go to the 45-minute or 90-minute yoga class at lunch. And you know: It’s like, he’s not going to get very much productivity out of us today, but we’re not going to get very much productivity out of ourselves the next two weeks, so we’re thinking it’s more than fair. Er, we don’t mean to overreact. but we’re germophobes by nature. It all dates back to our last office job, as a matter of fact, when we were six days from our first marathon, and our boss came to work (where she sat next to us!) totally sick, and we were just like: Could you not threaten our twelve-month training program because you didn’t feel like working from home today? Argh.
So today, instead, we will be thinking of many things, like where we are going to travel to next, and how nice it will be to do laundry, and what we are going to cough into a rag and then send the lying liar next week. And also, the reason for this post, in addition to expressing, on a macro level, how displeased we are with the selfish liar, is figuring out our answer to this question: Can style be acquired?

the fall 2008 anna sui collection left me feeling positively dizzy in the most delightful of ways. i have no idea whether or not these pieces are wearable in their collective forms, or if you would have to water them down and wear pieces separately, but only anna could mix native american and russian influences in a collection and make it work. she is definitely a woman who knows how to have fun and doesn’t take herself too seriously - it’s very refreshing.

You know what is our favorite thing in the world? When people who are partners at PR firms, and make $200,000 a year and have, like, sick days, come to work and cough all over the freelancers, and give the freelancers, who do not have sick days and barely have health insurance, their illness. Argh.
Anyway: In the significantly more cheerful news: all the new blue things! It’s freaking everywhere. We love it.

It’s time for fashion week again! First off, the city of modern, contemporary wear, New York.
Proenza Schouler
I’ll start off with my favourite collection so far, Proenza Schouler. Now I have to admit, when they first started, I liked but didn’t love their clothes. I still remember those tops with bras on them -done prettily but not exactly my style. But this collection is so gorgeous while still being contemporary and wearable. The colours were mostly neatral, but the collection started off with a range of rich, dark colours that are just irristiable.

LOVE the design of the first few dresses. They’re short (ie. young), and the folds of the fabric that create bow-like ruffles are so pretty. Plus the mix of two fabric (silk in certain areas) really make the mono-coloured dresses so much more outstanding. Seriously loves it!

Even though this collection is supposed to be the creative collection as opposed to their more commercial collection in the showroom, the coats still look very well cute and wearable-in-real-life to me.

For the people who have to work and go out to fancy dinners and cocktails afterwards.

Cool cocktail and party dresses. Slouchy pants were also a ‘thing’ in this collection, but I’m not sure everyone would look great in them in real life.
BCBG Max azria
I thought I wasn’t going to write about BCBG this time because the runway clothes aren’t the dresses that we see in stores anyway, but there were some pretty outfits that I couldn’t resist. All the outfits were outfitted with cute, bow-like, brown leather belts.

I can imagine wearing these (the two on the right) out on a relaxed, not-too-cold winter day wondering around stylish shopping malls and stopping for tea. I especially like the outfit on the right: the white, asymmetric top and mini-skirt is totally my taste. (Although I probably wouldn’t bother dressing up so much unless it was a really special day out.

More young, fashionable and put-together outfits. The outfit on the left is so adorable. Making the grey, tweed-like dress short and A-line really makes it young and wearable. And that huge silk, cream collar and sleeves add major class to the outfit. The other dresses are so modern too. Seriously, this collection is so much better than the last one (-the lingerie-like collection).

The M.A.C. Fafi collection won’t reach counters until February 13th, but you can view and buy online at www.maccosmetics.com/fafi/! If you want to see some colour swatches visit Temptalia’s awesome Fafi review. Christine mentions that the graphic on the compacts are actually stickers which is kind of a bummer. But I’ll have to check out and see if there’s anything that’s really worth getting. Here’s what I’m lusting after:

My fascination with window displays isn’t limited to London. Passing by Bergdorf Goodman yesterday, I was hit by the multitude of coloured post-its. I could have just been inspired by the juicy colours alone and also the fact that post-its even come in such a variety of colours (I’m old fashioned…. I stick to yellow and yellow alone…). But then take a step back, and of course the post-its take the shape of very famous people insteed (I just about managed to recognise all of them and congratulated myself for not being a complete numpty….). To be honest, the clothes on the dummies aren’t inspiring but I really must look into the possiblity of creating a fabric post-it note dress which immediately sprung to mind after walking past this display.

The Today Show’s Meredith Vieira hosted a segment this morning about breaking children of their “gross” and “disgusting” habits — farting, burping, belching, nose-picking, scab-scratching (have you had your breakfast yet?) — and we learned that one way to cure kids from nose picking is to dip their fingers in lemon juice. (Also: teenagers who fart on purpose should their laptops taken away from them for a week!) Honestly, the entire segment, featuring clinical psychologist Ruth Peters, was hilarious, but we were most intrigued by Peters’ assertion that there’s an epidemic of preschool girls who are spitting in public because they simply need attention. Clip above.
