ah, but the collection that won my heart? that would be the collection by chris benz.

the collection that was influenced by paris, by "becoming enamored with the style of french women—older french women, that is. "i love the idea of a funny old woman pulling wrinkled clothes from 50 years ago out of a suitcase," said benz. "i always like that weird girl."

and since i find myself having a deep affinity for the weird girl, this whimsical collection of brightly hued and utterly wearable pieces will appeal to the girl who likes to find the quirk in all facets of her life.

Project Runway’s Elisa Jimenez’ Crazy, Sorta-Sexy “Hunger World” [Fashion Show]

Project Runway’s Elisa Jimenez’ Crazy, Sorta-Sexy “Hunger World” [Fashion Show]
Elisa Jimenez made a name for herself as this season’s Project Runway contestant most likely to spit on a piece of fabric, rub it in grass to infuse it with the spirit of the earth, and use the word “polymorphic” to describe virtually all of her designs. Early yesterday, the 42-year old performance artist and designer challenged many a blurry-eyed fashionista with a 9 a.m. fashion week presentation/performance piece titled “The Hunger World”. Held at Manhattan’s Touch nightclub, the show paired real people with puppeteers to present an uneven collection of dresses and robes that would be more suitable for worshiping the moon, perhaps, than hitting the runway. (As devotees of Project Runway know, Jimenez has worked with real puppets in the past, but those, inexplicably, have since been buried in a riverbed.) Confused? We were too. Our morning in the Hunger World — along with a series of images taken by our own Nikola Tamindzic — begins after the jump.

Runway Beauty: Fashion Week Math at Herve Leger

Runway Beauty: Fashion Week Math at Herve Leger
What do you get when you mix a little bit of Proenza Schouler and a little bit of Thakoon? The hair and makeup at Herve Leger, that’s what.

Others have been talking about how “unexpected” this look was, but it looks pretty derivative to me. We saw the feather headpieces at Thakoon last year, and that lip color is a dead ringer for Proenza Pink.

Perfume of the Day: Biehl Parfumkunstwerke GS01 [The Scented Life: All about fragrance]

Perfume of the Day: Biehl Parfumkunstwerke GS01 [The Scented Life: All about fragrance]
The luckyscent description here is dead on this time. Starts out green, blossoms into floral and peachy-fruits. There is a LOT going on here, but it all works well together. I don’t love freesia scents on me, but this is a complex, wearable, hard to pin down scent. Reminds me a bit of the Givenchy “un jardin” scents especially Sur Le Nil. The drydown is very calm and steady-state compared to the vibrant, vibrating opening. Another white floral that I like in theory but just doesn’t work well on my chemistry.

Captivating in its quiet reverie, Geza Schoen’s (Escentric Molecules, Clive Christian) GS 01 is fresh and rich all at the same time. Its wonderfully unusual opening is laced with dewdrop green (we’re still not exactly sure what that means), orange flower, lime, carrot seeds and hints of herbs. It’s all tied together with spectacularly wild riot of fruity floral absolutes…white peach, water lily, davana, freesia…there are so many gems here that our noses were tingling in happiness. Geza put warm essences of cedar, basmati, musk, and moss at the base, giving GS 01 a meditative quality that allows the perfume to soar madly with its fruits, florals and spices yet balance gently with its quieter, earthbound cousins.

Hell’s Bells [Wedding Crashers]

Hell’s Bells [Wedding Crashers]
A new poll by You & Your Wedding magazine reports that some brides are so concerned about their bridesmaids that they would consider imposing a wedding party version of a pre-nuptial agreement. The contract clauses would require bridesmaids to agree not to put on weight, get pregnant, change their hairstyles, consume more than 10 units of alcohol at the reception or make advances towards “inappropriate male guests.” In addition, 48% of brides said they would ditch a bridesmaid who couldn’t follow the rules. Are these brides control freaks? Or just wise to be aware of flaky friends? [Telegraph, Daily Mail]
