You’re probably wondering what a snakeskin shoe is doing on this, a handbag blog, but sometimes I just have to question things that push the boundaries of taste, and what the fu…fug, yeah fug.

It is not as would first seem, and as seemed to me the countless number of times I scrolled past it on the Barney’s website, a pair of shoes worn with jeans, but a boot designed to look like a pair of jeans over a shoe…are you following me? Now, I have never thought of myself as someone who doesn’t get fashion…truth is, I’m not, I do get it. But this Pant Leg Knee Boot from Marc Jacobs is not fashion. It’s a joke that someone in house probably came up with (maybe Mr Jacobs himself…before rehab) in a fit of boredom…and it was deemed so “out there” it went in to production…just as one of those, “you can sell anything with the right label” things.
I’m sure that one day I will see this exact boot in a vintage shop as an example of the brilliance of Marc Jacobs, but right now, it looks like something a lady flasher would wear under her trench coat.
Hopefully, collector, or flasher, that person didn’t pay full price of $895, and waited instead to get a pair on sale for $595 at Barney’s…though I have a feeling the pants will come down a bit farther yet. In price, price, get your minds out of the gutter.

I knew one show would triumph for me at haute couture week and indeed Boudicca came through with their concise collection, a fashion knight in shining armous if you will. Ever since the Chambre Syndicale widened the schedule of couture to include guest members such as Boudicca and Cathy Pill, I can now count on a wider scope of different ideas in couture. People will often say ‘But this looks like ready to wear?’ about collections such as Boudicca’s or Anne Valerie Hash which I find odd only because it seems people’s idea of couture is confined to dramatic gowns, red carpet worthy dresses, OTT make-up and OTT everything in fact. This maybe true of the likes of Dior and Lacroix but as I learnt at the Age of Couture exhibition at the V&A, the bulk of what couture customers ordered were day to day suits and tailored pieces as opposed to lavish dresses. So when we say ‘This is not couture’, are we really saying ‘This is not OTT enough?’
Boudicca however is something of a middleground, NAY, that is too mundane a word…. a cross section, a combination of dramatics and sharp wearable tailoring. By wearable, I don’t mean everyone is going to be jumping for joy for this but then again, Boudicca have carved out such a niche universe (that sounds like another oxymoron but their website is truly a whole world of escapism with a rich array of literary and visual references) that their clientale would be a select one. Even so, it continues to confound me why Boudicca isn’t lauded and praised as it should do. Diane Pernet has longed championed them, yet their collections since 2006 haven’t been reviewed by Style.com nor has Suzy Menkes paid them any attention in the latest couture reviews. Or perhaps it is better this way, for the loyal Boudicca clients, for them to remain a somewhat potent secret.

Fans of Absolutely Fabulous may know Christian Lacroix as Edina’s favorite fashion obsession (”Lacroix, dahling, Lacroix!”) but the French designer has been at it for decades, winning CFDA’s “most influential designer” award in 1987. His couture collection, shown in Paris today, is classic Lacroix: Theatrical, color-drenched, rococo. Those who prefer sleek monochromatic looks ought to look away; the rest of us will be frolicking in the frothy, fairy-tale world the designer has conjured with gowns fit for joyful yet mentally unstable socialites. Gallery begins below.

Linda Loudermilk’s collection screams ethereal rocker chic. She has created a collection filled with whimsical, edgy and dark pieces partnered with edgy and practical garments that evoke the feelings of her more over-the-top dresses. Her striking color palette (I love her choices of electric blue and the pale flower print), asymmetrical cuts and unique silhouettes adds an element of sophistication to the entire collection.

![Thin May Be In But Fat’s More Fun [Weighty Issues]](http://citypeoplefashion.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/143029.jpg)
A new study out of Japan has found that outgoing people tend to be overweight, while “anxious types” are more likely to be thin, reports Reuters. In a survey of more than 30,000 Japanese people, Tohoku University researchers found that extroverted men and women are nearly twice as likely to be obese. Introverts were twice as likely to be underweight. The age-old images of fun, jolly fat characters and thin, drawn nervous types have some basis in fact. And, according to The New York Times, fat people are indeed outgoing — especially on blogs — or as the Times calls it, “The Fatosphere.”
According to the article, fat bloggers “Celebrate their full figures and call on readers to accept their bodies, quit dieting and get on with life.” There’s no focus on diets, but there’s no encouragement to pig out, either: “One of the first obstacles to fat acceptance is breaking down the question of whether being fat is a choice,” says Shapely Prose blogger Kate Harding. “No fat acceptance advocate is saying you should sit around and wildly overeat. What we’re saying is that exercise and a balanced diet do not make everyone thin.”

‘Tis the week for mega-gorgeous, artistic and unwearable couture!
Christian Dior
Haute Couture S/S08 started off with a bang with the ever-dramatic collection from Christian Dior by John Galliano. As per the collections from the last few haute couture seasons, this collection was composed of strong, bright, vivid colours. The theme of this collection was Madame X, which I know nothing about and am not bothered to Wiki it, but do do so if you’re interested. To be honest, while these couture pieces are all truly amazing, I’m not completely awed after Dior’s Japanese collection in HC S/S07, my favourite yet. Perhaps it looks more stunning in real life.

The jewel colours are SO gorgeous. Gosh, imagine all the work put into constructing the dress and all those little details!

These are great to look at (in an artistic way) and very unwearable.

Don’t the models look like they’re wearing super-volumous dresses with capes on? And please don’t tell me that the grey dress (left) is made of animal skin because that’s just scary. (Hmm, maybe I should look up a closer-up photo.)

Aww, these are so cute and girly! (-in an expensive and unrealistic way of course.)
Anne Valerie Hash
I like how this collection feels very delicate, yet still edgy in some ways, (maybe it’s the neatral colours or the menswear characteristics.) A very soft and feminine collection, with some current trends incorporated in:

Huge shoulders.

Soft and see-through.

Pencil-dress and menswear.

Tuesday morning is just too early in the week for any sort of epifany but I experienced one nonetheless. A copy of Passport, a London-centric fashion/lifestyle magazine landed on my desk. It’s not actually a real magazine for sale but a project created by the London College of Fashion MA journalism students and I had been asked to contribute a column for this Christmas/Festive issue (a little late coming I know!). Looking at it, layout, content, structure, tone etc…. all of the skills that went into putting this together are skills that I could definitely do with now if my dream is to even have a remote chance of happening. I hate to say it and I apologise to my parents who paid my tuition fees and all, but my UCL history degree is suddenly looking a little redundant, despite all of my grammar school upbringing pushing me towards an ‘academic’ degree as opposed to a ‘vocational’ one, reasoning that the former is far superior to the other (I now realise that is complete bollocks….). That’s not to say that every fashion editor has come from a fashion journalism degree background so perhaps there is hope yet. Still, Passport is polished to such a level that has given me much to think about with regards to my fantasy mag.
