When I have doth protested that my style is a work in progress, a canvas that I’m continually reworking and adding onto, what I really mean to say is there are imperfections that I’m fully aware of and actually rather love about my style. I may give 100% genuine love to what I wear but I can also later criticise an outfit and say ‘Okaaay… something went a leeeetle bit wrong there….’. In a way, I’m sort of glad that I do make those mistakes and don’t strive for perfection the first time round otherwise where would the learning curve be?
I get why phrases like ‘less is more’ and ‘effortless’ are revered the way they are but I don’t think it’s a crime when I don’t take those phrases to be biblical style truths. As opposed to being a slave to those phrases and clutching to them 100% of the time as if they were some sort of style security blanket, I’d much rather pick and choose as and when I want to utilise them. A lot of people have called me a ‘layering queen’ and though I take this as something of a compliment, I’m not sure I want to be exclusively pigeon holed with that phrase either. Perhaps this really is about no wanting to be heavily known for being one thing or the other because I feel like I’m capable of toning it down when the occasion arises.
Hilary Duff always brings it with the makeup. Here she is looking fierce with brown smoky eyes, matte skin and nude glossy lips.
To get the Duffster’s look, begin by giving skin a matte velvet finish with a foundation powder like Giorgio Armani Silk Foundation Powder. Skip additional setting powder.
While perusing one of my guilty pleasures, PerezHilton.com, I came across his post about Christina Aguilera’s baby announcement and thank you message to her fans. It included this beautiful video of “Save Me From Myself” off of her Back To Basics album, which also included actual wedding footage! This video is a far cry from her “dirrty” days - I’ve never seen her look and sound more beautiful! I was never really into her music until this last album and I think she should do a whole acoustic album. I’ve included the video for your listening and viewing pleasure!
>> People have been moaning at me for not updating My Style Diary and quite rightly so. I’ve been trying to figure out a way of posting up daily outfits without too much hassle and seeing as My Style Diary is looking a little crusty with the blurry pics and old house surroundings, I’ve decided to start a rather self-indulgent basic blog as an extension of Style Bubble called in a rather imaginative way ‘Style Bubble Daily Wear’. Nothing fancy going on there, just a daily pic or two (depending on how many outfit changes the day invovles) with a list of what I’m wearing and a tiny note to accompany the pic explaining whatever arbitrary choice I’ve gone with. In the same way that I kept a style diary for personal perusing pleasure, this should be interesting as the months go on to see whether patterns, tendancies and habits emerge in my daily wear, all of which I will dissect in a scarily mathematical way. Just a few notes though…
1) Unlike other fash bloggers, I tend not to present myself in the absolute best light…lack of make-up, hair brushing/blow drying and general preening. The photos tend to be taken early in the morning or late at night so my main concerns are getting the pics done period, as opposed to making myself look fabby for them…. I apologise in advance.
When I heard that model and Dancing With the Stars castoff Josie Maran was launching a “green” cosmetics line, I was skeptical. How good could environmentally friendly products actually be?
Turns out my skepticism over Josie Maran Cosmetics was completely unfounded. Josie, the face of Maybelline for nearly ten years, really “walks the talk” - she’s committed to a green lifestyle and seems to have a genuine passion for ingredients and packaging that reflect it (random trivia: I knew Josie’s brother Nick in college, right around the time Josie was dating David Blaine).
Our eyes may still be slightly out of focus from the complete lack of sleep obtained while at CES, but the two Inventec UMPCs purportedly going by 7-A / 5-D sure look a heck of a lot different than the model we peeked in Vegas. As you can glean from the image above, the UMPC 7-A sports a nifty slider design that supposedly places the QWERTY keyboard at a “more natural angle” for the user. As for the so-called UMPC 5-D (shown after the jump), it ditches the aforementioned design and takes a more modular approach to satisfy those who just adore buying a new dock for every handheld they own. Regrettably, we’ve no hard details surrounding the specs of these two machines, but we doubt we’ll have to twiddle our thumbs for too much longer before finding out.
Sales! Sales sales sales! Honestly, we don’t know why we aren’t at the mall right this minute, scooping up handfuls of budget clothing. Today: Sway & Cake. We don’t know how they got the name, but we like it.
Above: We are thinking that this shirt could transcend this photo of it. Chrissa Collection top, was $168, now $84
The year 2006 when Christopher Kane graduated from Central St. Martins MA was a particularly good one giving us a crop of designers to look out for. Since then, of course we all know what has happened to Christopher Kane but I have been eager to see what the likes of Lisa Pritchard or Molly Grad has been up to and thus far, nothing has surfaced to my knowledge. However, after closer investigation, Marcel Ostertag, who graduated with a first prize for his menswear collection at CSM in the same year as Kane, has gone onto great things. Things that I hadn’t a clue about which just goes to show how insular conceptions of fashion can be, so lesson one would be to get out of the London-bubble. For a start, Ostertag has now gone onto womenswear. Lesson two, pay more bloody attention to menswear in the first place (I have a few choice words to say about the menswear shows AW08-9 shows which have just about ended…). He also shows regularly at Berlin Fashion Week and now has two stores to his name, one in Vienna and one in Munich, an achievement that London-based designers would struggle to achieve given how hard it is to keep the finances in order. Lesson three, pay more attention to ALL the fashion weeks.
When I walked into my local CVS last night I found they had added Milani Cosmetics to their range of brands offered. What caught my eye is their Runway Eyes eye shadows. I searched the internet high and low to find a picture for you, but to no avail.
The colors were amazing, although the shadows seemed to be thin horizontal strips of color (so possibly easily breakable?)
newVideoPlayer(”marycareyfart_jezebel.flv”, 475, 376,”"); Celebrity rehab is a kind of grave topic for a reality show, but leave it to porn star/former-gubernatorial candidate Mary Carey to provide the comic relief. On the first episode, her bags were searched and she had adult movies, vibrators, dildos, and a mold of her vagina confiscated (she brought that last one as a gift for someone), and, aside from the disappointment that masturbation would now be more difficult, she laughed the whole thing off. On last night’s episode, Mary was goofing around with Jessica Sierra — the two were inexplicably wearing crazy-lady makeup — when she decided to fart. Loudly. This woman is clearly comfortable doing anything and everything in front of the camera. Clip above.
