The high drama currently surrounding the French President, Nicolas Sarkozy, his ex-wife, Cécilia, and his new girlfriend, former model Carla “The Maneater” Bruni, is better than anything you’d see on Days of our Lives. The Elysee Palace intrigue reached a fever pitch this week when not one, but three biographies about Cécilia and Nicolas were released, in which the former first lady called President Sarkozy: “ridiculous, badly behaved and not fit to be president.” And that’s the nicest thing Cécilia (allegedly) said about him, even though she’s the one who left the President for another man. She also labeled him a stingy philanderer, and called Sarkozy’s ladyfriends “slappers” (American translation: low hanging fruit).

Salma Hayek has been keeping a low profile since giving birth to her daughter, Valentina, and now she’s ready to get back to work. The actress will star opposite John C. Reilly in the horror film Cirque du Freak, according to the Variety. Hayek, 41, will play a bearded lady, “Madame Truska” opposite Reilly’s vampire character in the film, which is based on the 12-book children’s series by writer Darren Shan. (Is a bearded lady a victim? Survey says: No.) In other casting news, actress Olivia Wilde (The O.C., House) may have finally gotten her big film break, signing on to star as Jack Black’s love interest in the “biblical-era comedy” The One, directed by Harold Ramis.
Lastly, for those Jezebels who appreciate fine-looking fellows, actor Christian Bale is set to star alongside Johnny Depp in director Michael Mann’s Depression-era drama Public Enemies. Bale will play a FBI agent in hot pursuit of Depp’s gangster. Think of it as Heat, minus 80 years.

The artwork on this tee is really impressive. But I’m not really sure how well it works on a tee. If you check out the larger images it is really well done. I think I’d rather the print be a bit larger and just focus on two men with the mics.
artwork, images, mics, two men

Reports are coming in that Britney left L.A. and went to Mexico with her new boyfriend, paparazzo Adnan Ghalib, because her family was planning an intervention. (Between her parents and Dr. Phil, is it any wonder she’d feel the urge to skip town?) But Patt Morrison of the Los Angeles Times suggests that what Britney really needs is reform of the California mental healthcare code. “In the 1950s and ’60s, care for the mentally ill gave off a Dickensian vibe,” she writes. “People were locked away in state hospitals for months, years, for life. Too many times, they weren’t insane — just old and dotty, or inconvenient, or different and difficult.” Back in the day, a person could be put away just for walking down the street talking to herself. Attacking a car with an umbrella or the head-shaving incident? Britney would have been in a straightjacket.

Got bunions from heels? Lead in your lipstick? According to a story on MSNBC, women (and men!) have risked their health to look good for centuries. Ancient Egyptians had famously black-rimmed eyes, which were obtained by using a mixture of metal ores, lead, soot and fat. Pink eye, anyone? Says dermatologist Dr. Joel Schlessinger: “The exposure would eventually lead to irritability, insomnia and mental decrease.” Sexy! Ancient Greeks and Romans used white lead face cream to “clear complexions of blemishes and to improve the color and texture of the skin.” (As we know now, lead can cause skin ruptures, insanity and infertility.) Some scholars believe that the makeup, hair dye, cooking pots, viaducts and drinking cups — all made with lead– are one of the reasons the Roman Empire fell. Fast-forward to the 15th century, when the “dead white” look came back in full-force. For the next three hundred years or so, men and women of the court painted their faces white with a mixture of lead and vinegar.
