The Tight Squeeze

This might be completely the wrong time to be posting about dresses that will probably take a professional corsetiere to pour my body into.  In fact, it’s completely the wrong time considering my office is littered with Christmas hamper gifts containing the likes of marron glaces, truffles, flaked drinking chocolate, cheese twists and dozens of jars of condiments that I never even knw existed.  Christmas AKA the monster food fest that never ends (it’s not just ONE meal on the ONE day, it’s the Christmas jollies in the three week runup to Christmas that do me in….), really should be deterring me from Hervé Léger dresses.  However, it does work both ways as Léger’s stretchy fabric dresses constructed in a bandage effect will probably do more to tuck the X’Mas belly in more than anything else.

Having not been old enough to live through the peak of Hervé Léger’s success the first time round, I’ll certainly be interested to see what Max Azria (BCBG Max Azria Group bought the brand in 1998) has done to reinvent and redesign the brand, ‘while staying true to the house’s heritage’ as Hervé Léger will be getting its first show since the 90’s at New York Fashion next season.  I like that there’s complexity bought to the whole body-con aesthetic and with the way you can cut the bandages and mould the shapes using strategic stripes, there’s a sort of mathematical precision about the technique that I like.

Judging from the resort collection here, of course all the elements of Léger there but there’s still a ‘fierceness’ and ’strength’ that I think they could do with doses of.  After all, someone who is confident enough to wrap themselves in tight-as-poss elastic bandage might not be after simple ladylike demureness in their Léger pieces.  Just let me stuff myself with my hamper fodder first and then I’ll work on my breathing in techniques.

High School Musical Lip Balm From Avon [Style Tots]

How about a High School Musical Lip Balm for winter? Lip Balms are a must during cold season. My son has a tube of his own coz he gets very dry during the cold season. The trick is reminding him everyday coz well, he’s still a boy and he forgets sometimes. .99 cents a tube in different flavors. Troy & Gabriella (Blueberry), Sharpay (Cherry), Taylor (Grape), and Gabriella (Raspberry Jam). Nice eh? Now pucker up those lips! :)

Chanel Number Nein [Maghag]

From the “Readings” section of the new issue (January) of Harper’s: Russian artist Yevgeniy Fiks donated copies of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin’s Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism to 100 global corporations, including Amazon, Coca-Cola & Staples. Although 66 of the books were never heard from (or about) again, 14 copies were accepted, and 20 were officially rejected and returned, including the one sent to the headquarters of Chanel, which begged off with the explanation that the company has “no corporate library at this time.” (Staples, for those who care, gladly accepted the book). amazing.

>> I’m kind of hoping Olga Sherer/Lanvin is the new Sasha/Prada.

After Olga’s fantastically unparalleled showing for the brand’s Fall/Winter 2007 campaign, this first image from the Spring 2008 round made me stop in my tracks. Steven Meisel manages to showcase the fantastic color and airiness Alber had running through the collection, and the baroque painter’s quality along with that pale pale skin has me wowing.  I hope this is the second of many wonderful outings to come.

Oh, and make sure you click the picture, you must see it big.

To: Me, From: Me - Making Santa’s Job Easier [Teen Style Lounge]

Yesterday, Santa went shopping at Old Navy. And Santa scored!

Okay, okay. So Santa, in this case, is moi. And the receiver of Santa’s score? Also moi. ;)

See, I decided to reward my fabulous self with a Christmas present to…myself this year. You don’t fault me, do you? Plus, I simply couldn’t help it. I’d have been foolish to pass this up. The deals in the stores right now are wicked-crazy good. This sweater, normally $34.50, was only $20! See, I practically had to buy it (I got it in a khaki color, though).

Of course, one can’t score a new V-neck and not have anything appropriate to put under it. So, off to Aeropostale I went. My score there?

This basic cami in “Pool”, at HALF OFF! Yep, that’s only $8.25! Woo! Aren’t the colors awesome together? The cool blue against the earthy brown? I cannot even wait to put away my red and green so I can rock these new acquisitions with some great jeans and my kick-butt brown boots.

So to recap…Awesome sweater, awesome cami, under $30! Thanks, Santa. Merry Christmas to me!

The ‘WTF’ fabric….

I suspect that I have moments in charity shopping where afterwards, even I will go ‘WTF?!  Why did I just buy that?!’  I’m not sure whether someone slipped something a bit naughty in my coffee and then I wandered into the nearest charity shop and basically came out with this size 16, lo-ong button down skirt in what can only be described as the ‘WTF’ fabric.  It’s quilted.  It’s shiny.  It’s floral.  It’s the brightest colours that you can combine together.  All in all, you look at it and go ‘WTF?!?!?’

Actually, that would be awfully cruel of me to accuse someone of sneaking something in my coffee.  It was my own doing.  I take full flack.  I really looked at it and thought I could somehow do something with this monstrous fabric.  I stowed it away for the longest time to prevent it from blinding both my boyfriend and I.  Today, I just took it out, chopped it down and thought to myself ‘Hmmm…why don’t I just let the WTF-ness speak for itself and just let it do its thang….?’

I didn’t cut it too short and I didn’t belt it in.  I just let it be and somehow…some way… and this could be my own brain that is sloshing about with too much mulled wine… it doesn’t look too horrific?  Elevated by some ankle boots, toned down with a tux and dulled down with heaps of grey…my word… I might even be able to bring myself to go swishing down the streets in it without fear of small children in the streets pointing at it and laughing themselves silly….
