Whether you love Chanel no 5, and revel in its classic blend of synthetic and natural, or just can’t do the aldehydes that made this such a groundbreaking formula, I urge you to try Chanel no 5 Eau Premier.  It’s a stripped down and softened version of the classic that’s reminiscent of the scent and will please devotees, but might win you over if you couldn’t deal with it.  The thing is, the bottles apparently had some sort of ‘issue’ and have been pulled from store shelves, but will be back perhaps mid-2008.  I sniffed it at Saks Fifth Avenue and think Jacques Polge has hit the mark.  If you  have a young relative who loves things that are glamorous and “grown up” this would be a perfect present.
