The Print Reminder

There will be another LFW loss for next season and as I was browsing through the Fashion East sample sale yesterday, it struck me that the cluster of labels that were hanging on the rails were like a nucleus London fashion collective, each designer contributing completely different things to the scene but it seems right to say all their names in succession and in tandem with each other.  Jonathan Saunders will however be taken out of this nucleus as he will be showing in New York come February.

For the past two seasons, he has played with shape and structure more so than when he first started and was purely known for his printwork.  I thought it would be nice to buy a little bit of signature Saunders print in the form of this dress from the SS06 collection at the sale to perhaps give a litle bit of a reminder of what attracted me to Saunders’ work in the first place; the colour compositions, the perfect judgement of timing and structure in pattern.

Without wanting to give people a too much of a headache as they follow the coloured lines of the dress, a sheer tunic will tone it down a bit…(victim alert, as I am indeed falling for all things sheer next season…. abeit layered of course with zero flesh showing through….!)

Boots on Sale at Macy’s [ShoeBlitz - Shoe Fashions]

Rather than heading to the mall, I decided to do a little shoe shopping online today. Right now Macy’s, like Bloomingdale’s, is having a “Buy 1 pair, Get 50% off the 2nd” sale on selected shoes and boots.

The selection of boots and booties that they have on sale is really fantastic.

I love these Report Duchess Boots in brown. The lace-up styling and low heel make them a terrific option to add to your winter wardrobe. I decided to purchase these and then get a pair of booties for half off.

Right now, I’m torn between two completely different styles:

GUESS? “Faila” Bootie
Who couldn’t use a little more leopard in their life! I love the style of these boots.

These suede boots have a pointy toe (that I love) and a nice heel. I like that the leopard print is just on top and not too overpowering.

You could wear these with a black evening outfit to spice it up, and carry a clutch in a similar leopard print.  You can also wear these with something as simple as jeans and a black sweater.  These boots are just $130 right now. Quite a deal.

Max Studio “Corgi” Ankle Boot
In a completely different look, I really like these oxford style booties. The menswear trend is continuing well into winter and these boots would fit right in.

Again, I like them in brown. The platform is also a big plus! These are only $159.

Oh well, what’s a girl to do! I’m guessing in the end I’ll just find a fourth pair of shoes and buy them all!

Next On Makeup Junkie

The last few days have been a bit busy and I have not had a chance to post my interview with April Jacob and Michael DeVellis of The Powder Group from 2 weeks ago! I apologize for the delays but things just come up unexpectedly! I’ve been working on transfering my interview with Michael to an audio clip but have been trying to work out some kinks (damn technology!). I probably could have transcribed it already and posted it but I’ve gotten this far and I’m not giving up! You’ll love my interview with April because she’s just such a bubbly personality and so passionate about her makeup line Pink Beauty Cosmetics. It’s full of great beauty tips that’ll make your life easier!

Tomorrow, November 25th, is also the Billy B. seminar I’ve been waiting for since July! I am so excited to finally meet the makeup genius in person! Michael will also be doing an encore seminar from The Canadian Makeup Show about Portfolio Building and Marketing Your Career. Both seminars are at Industry Cosmetics in Toronto. Lots to look forward to! I hope all my American makeup junkies had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Valentino Rock’n Rose [The Scented Life: All about fragrance]

I’m loving Valentino’s Rock’n Rose perfume, it feels perfect for the kind of ‘edgy’ fall weather we’ve been having.  I really didn’t expect to like it but I was sucked in by black currant, I guess.  Its composition:
• Top notes of bergamot, black currant, and crunch green.
• Middle notes of orange blossom, gardenia, muguet, and rose.
• Base notes of sandalwood, orris, musky notes, vanilla, and heliotrope.

It’s definitely far from gourmand.  I think it’s similar to Stella McCartney’s Stella. Word has it that Rock’n Rose has two baby sisters, Rock’n Rose Couture, and Rock’n Rose Pret a Porter.  How Clever!

Sale on Mark perfumes Bohista and Hollywood Pink [The Scented Life: All about fragrance]

Hollywood Pink was one of the first (if not the first) fragrance Mark offered when it launched a few years ago.  I suppose it’s being discontinued but for now you can get it super cheap - 1.7 oz for $5!!! I love the vintagey bottle.  Bohista comes in a cute bottle as well, but the scent isn’t nearly as great on me.

Hollywood Pink: juicy mandarin and tangerine notes blended with a floral heart of muguet and freesia leaving the sensual notes of musk and Cacao for a sexy smooth scent.

Bohista: Infused with essences of ginger lily and orchid. Rich chocolate and warm musk add depth and distinctiveness, resulting in a vibrant and dynamic fragrance that is subtly seductive. The feminine bottle is topped with a sleek, sculpted removable ring that can be worn on your finger.  (this one, by the way, is $9).
