The new Vanity Fair we’ve been poring through profiles Salman Rushdie ex- and Top Chef hostess Padma Lakshmi, one of the few celebrities we are pretty sure we dislike mainly because we are jealous, and the general impression we get of the cause for the split is, “Well duh, he was too old and she was too young.” (Says Padma: “He hates Kanye West and I love him.”) Yeah yeah yeah, he was someone and she was no one and she sounds annoyingly ambitious and narcissistic and obviously didn’t love him the way he loved her, but seriously, what twentysomething does love a fiftysomething the way he loves her? Anyway, she misses him, lives in a hotel, says “fucking” a lot, hangs out with someone named DJ Rekha, and ends the story being affectionately manhandled by Russell Simmons.
