David Beckham And The Boots Controversy, Part Deux [She Knows Best - Lifestyle Tips for Guys]

Oooh, the David Beckham Boots Controversy ain’t over yet. Someone else came forward and claimed David wasn’t wearing John Varvatos or Sendra Motor Boots. Instead ACE In Vegas said David Beckham was wearing a pair of Frye boots from Owen Chelsea when he officially arrived here in America to work his million and millions of dollars Soccer contract.

But then, 2 seconds later ACE in Vegas turned around and agreed with Mike and Dom. David was indeed wearing Sendra Motor Boots. For crying out loud, which is it? John Varvatos? Sendra Motor Boots or Frye? LOL. OI VEY!

I’d call Victoria Beckham for you guys to finally settle this but I think she blocked my phone number from her Blackberry. You decide people then have a great weekend. :D :D

Thermaclear Heat Enabled Acne Treatment [Beauty Gizmo]

The easy to use handheld ThermaClear device delivers a safe, controlled burst of heat that neutralizes pimple-causing bacteria at the source. It’s clinically proven to be safe and effective, clearing pimples up to 4 times faster than those not treated with ThermaClear. Simply apply to each pimple as you notice it forming. And the best part? Treatment time is only 2 seconds per pimple.

Well, it looks like I am bombarding my blog with skin care beauty gadgets lately, and what I’ve found recently is the Thermaclear Heat Enabled Acne Treatment. Well, I guess the creators /inventors of this product took seriously the frustration of those who’ve suffered and acne and wished that “they would just go away in a heartbeat.”

Thermaclear works by delivering a concentrated dose of heat on the problem area, as the “pulse” neutralizes bacteria and kills the cause of zits.

I’ve lurked around my fellow beauty bloggers’ lairs to check on their experience using the ThermaClear, and I’ve found out that TheBeautyBrains and MakeupMoxie have tried them and posted reviews about their experience.

To sum, I think this is great for zits that you feel are almost forming, or mild and moderate ones. Whiteheads and blackheads also aren’t part of the deal of Thermaclear’s benefits. Cystic acne still need the attention of your dermatologist, for it’s hard to self-treat on serious inflammations. For $149.00, this would be a lifesaver for “unborn zits”!

Oh, I just wish there’d me a professional dermatologist with a magic wand! Haha!

Lost in Browsing

After my shortlived immersion in Tokyo style, I continued by doing what I used to do to procrastinate from writing my history essays at uni - browse on Japanese online stores, knowing that I could never buy any of the stuff and also getting much satisfaction out of converting Yen into Pounds on XE.com as the figure would shrink dramatically.  Nuan+ is something I stumbled on (I never know HOW I get to these places… I just get there…somehow…).  I can’t really be very detailed about everything as I just go about clicking on the left handside list of labels, a lot of which I’m not familiar with and then see what turns up.  My knowledge of Kanji (Chinese) characters only gets me so far on sites like these.

Some labels like Frapbois, Johanna Ho and Theatre Products are familiar to me from shopping in Hong Kong but it’s basically bags of fun just clicking about on random things and seeing something that REALLY catches you without having a label/name tagging it.  Through Nuan+, I discovered labels that I probably won’t find much decent info on but to know it’s existence is good enough - Full Nelson, Hisui, Carlife and Recipier are all tickling my fancy as you can see in the collages.

Why, might you ask, have I backed the images with Hong Kong skyscrapers?  Surfing on sites like Nuan+ REALLY stokes up the desire to go fleeing back to Hong Kong on a shopping trip pronto.  It’s been less than a year but more like a lifetime to me.

I guess using Crescent Shop’s exorbitant shipping service (they buy things on Japanese online sites and ship stuff overseas to ppl…for a PREMIUM price!) could work.  Or harassing my Japanese flatmate to help me procure some of this stuff may be a better option.

The Peek of Blue

Call me a sheep flocker but I just can’t get gradiated colour/ombre effects out of my mind.  Jil Sander SS08, touches of the Louis Vuitton AW07-8, Jonathan Saunders AW07-8….it’s all combusting in my head into a frenzy to have my whole wardrobe fading from one colour to the next.  The shades of sky that Jil Sander’s collection evoked got me all excited when I saw this Bernhard Willhelm shirt dress which has just come into b Store online.  I never got all that fussed about the painters smocks that everyone made into an essential uniform over the summer but this one with the pale blue seeping into the inky navy/black combined with the simplicity of the shape….. if it weren’t for the fact that size small is sold out, I’m pretty much 100% there.

Then I’ve also started to make enquiries about these Nina Ricci resort 08 footless tights which could just be a catwalk prop, not meant for retail but there is a possibility they might be sitting in the Nina Ricci boutique in Paris very soon.  In which case, I’ll have to dip into the ’special hoisery’ fund (there’s ALWAYS enough for those special tights/socks…) to get these beautifully delicate sheer tights that allow the blue to just about creep up.  If not, then I still intend to do some dip dying experiments (hopefully my flatmates won’t be too horrified that I’ve dyed the bathroom all colours of the rainbow).

RejuvaWand - Week Two. [Aging Fabulous]

I am two weeks into my RejuvaWand experiment. It is beginning to feel more like a routine than an experiment. Though, I am still waiting to notice some results.

Here are the images I took before I started.

I want to concentrate on my eye areas, directly under my eyes and the dreaded crows feet on outer side of my eyes. I know I squint too much and that is probably why the wrinkles are so bad under my eye area. My crows feet are not that bad, it is more of a single line which is easily hidden with makeup, but this area seems worse when I smile.

I wasn’t really aware of my frown lines here until I saw this picture. Wow! I am really concentrating on using the wand here, and am hoping I see results.

I think I may notice a difference if I took another picture now, but in the mirror I do not see a dramatic enough of a difference at this point, so I think I will wait for the entire month to be up. Then I will snap away and let you be the judge.

I still plan to get my act together and make a short video of me using the RejuvaWand. Until then, you can watch my favorite Beauty & Style gal Christina from eBeautyDaily giving hers a try. I really like her piece as she tapes herself trying the wand for the very first time.

F.P. Journe Sonnerie Souveraine Watch

Ever heard of a watch that costs a half a million bucks and has a waiting list of three years? That’s what F.P Journe has created. The Sonnerie Souveraine retails for a hefty $560,000 because of it’s ability to chime at the hours and quarters just like a grand clock.

What’s the big deal you ask? The big deal is getting an automatic watch to chime from the limited supply of energy of just your wrist movements. The creation of the Sonnerie Souveraineis has been heralded as amazing horological (study of the science and art of timekeeping devices) achievement.

So get on that waiting list and impress your friends when the hours strike. Ding-dong-dong!

Cate Blanchett for SK-II [eBeautyDaily - The Beauty Blog]

Cate Blanchett is another actress that I am iffy about what I think about her. However, I have seen her in recent weeks look absolutely exquisite, as I have never really seen (or thought of) her before. Could be jealousy. LOL Regardless, my feelings about her have definitely taken a turn recently, and I am happy to hear that Cate has been hired as the new face of SK-II in the US - I have a feeling she is going to continue to grow on me.

SK-II is a Proctor & Gamble brand, VERY popular in Asia, not so much here in the States, and Cate has previously been representing the brand down under. She even claims to have slathered my boyfriend, Brad Pitt (duh), with it after wearing all of the prosthetic makeup in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. I have had my eye on SK-II for years, but for some reason or another (so much skin care, so little time!), have not ever made the plunge to try any of their products. So, that time is coming up soon, I hope, as I am guessing they are going to put SK-II smack dab in the face of North America. I hope so anyway - regardless I am going to venture out once I am finished with my hardcore Rejuvawand wrinkle plan and ready to venture out and try something new.

Now, the question is - what do I try first? I know there are some SK-II fans out there - please let me know what you love the most so I can have some guidance. :)

Can You Maintain Feminist Ideals in the Real World? [Full Frontal Feminism]

In the November Elle UK, London Times columnist Caitlin Moran offers a primer on “how to stay true to your feminist ideals when you long to be Daniel Craig’s sex slave.” Though it’s an admittedly tongue-in-cheek article (it’s classified under “Humour” — love the British spellings), Moran touches on real life scenarios that would certainly test the pro-lady principles of any Second Sex-carrying feminist. For instance, what should a woman do when the only way to get ahead at her job is to make use of her feminine wiles? Moran suggests that while “writhing around on top of piano like Michelle Pfeiffer in the Fabulous Baker Boys is definitely out…you could certainly allow yourself to be a little bit extra ‘charming’ in that rather tight Moschino sweater.”

Even more interesting is Moran’s exploration of the desire to be submissive in the sack, even if you’re in charge of everything else (a fantasy with which Jezebels are well acquainted).

The Theory: sex-positive feminism. Women’s sexual fantasies often centre around subjugation and masochism. This is possibly due to the physical actuality of heterosexual sex (the woman abandoning herself to penetration), or because pain (due to menstruation or childbirth) is an irreducible part of being a woman. Often, part of humanity’s way of coping with traumatic events is to sexualise them - bondage, spanking, the movie Crash. It might also simply be because you’re quite tired and like the idea of lying there having a bit of a rest while someone else does all the hard work.
The Reality:
mmmm, being Daniel Craig’s sex slave. Totally natural.

What’s particularly notable about this article, even though it is meant to be satire, is that the assumption on Moran’s part that her readers aspire to feminist ideals in the first place. Not to be an annoying Anglophile about it, but I sincerely doubt that any American women’s magazine would build an entire article around the premise that all of its audience is feminist or struggles with maintaining vaunted standards. Yeah, wearing the tight sweater to get ahead at the office is probs not the best idea, but questioning dogma is always encouraged ’round these parts. No wonder she’s inspired the Facebook group I Want To Be/Have Sex With Caitlin Moran When I Grow Up.
