Mineral Makeup Review: Silk Naturals Perfect Harmony Kit

For those ladies out there who love mineral foundations but find themselves always in-between shades or having to mix 2 or 3 colors to get an exact match, Perfect Harmony foundation was made for you. This is from the mineral makeup company Silk Naturals. What’s interesting is that they give you a white base foundation, an ebony shade, a mixing jar and a scoop with instructions on how to mix your perfect shade. From the basics you get to mix your own shade even if the season changes: add more ebony if you get tan in the summer or add more white base if you’re paler in the winter. And it all feels oh-so-light on the face. No itch (unlike mineral makeup with bismuth) and stays on the whole day with minimal oily breakthroughs especially when topped with their Perfecting Powder.
I got myself a trial kit of Perfect Harmony and got a kick out of mixing my shade. The scoop itself is so cute! My mix was 1 scoop white base to 1 and a half scoops of ebony since I am medium toned. Even though the ebony was labeled as a neutral shade, it still worked for me. It would have been better if I was able to get hold of their sample in Warm Gold which is more suited for women with golden undertones (that’s me!). (Their Warm Gold was still in the works at the time I ordered). Also, this company’s Perfecting Powder is one of the best finishing powders I have tried. By mid-day I am usually an oil slick but not with this one on. My face looked “dewy” instead of oily. I didn’t even get to use any blotting papers! And did I say that it feels so light on the face? It really does. So now off I go to make another ghost cart. I want to try out the Dait Bait which is a tinted version of the perfecting powder and the Warm Gold trial kit. Plus their lip glosses and eye shadows, too. Oh, so many products to make a girl happy.

Sale of the Day: Kors by Michael Kors Heels

Ooh, we love these, like barbecues and fireworks. Wrong season, but we’ll prolly be just about the same size next May. And we don’t give a fuck either way about the “nautical trend,” as we think our affinity for stripes, in general, transcends it.
Caveat: these are final sale, so if you don’t know your Kors by MK size (ours: 8!), you might not want to risk it.
KXMK heels, were $195, now $97.50

Have You Picked Out Your Halloween Costume Yet?? [Shopaholics Daily]
I can’t believe how quickly this month is flying by. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I have been away so much of it. But for those of you who haven’t gotten around to deciding, I thought that I would turn my attention to those Halloween parties that should be coming up very soon. I thought that this was kind of cool… The kiss of darkness! Is this you?? And just look at those shoes!!

Can We Just Mention: Emmy Rossum and Her Lovely Dress

We once interviewed Emmy Rossum, and she was so mean to us, we almost hung up the phone. We didn’t, because if we had, our boss would have killed us, and it wasn’t worth the hassle. Argh. We remember rolling our eyes quite a bit, but it was over the phone, and so possibly the most passive aggressive, and least effective, form of resistance we have ever mustered.
All of this is to say that it pains us to make note of this dress, and how she has managed to pull of that most difficult of skirt lengths: mid-calf. It is the same length as our old Girl Scout uniform, possibly the most attraction-repellant article of clothing ever sewn together.

We looked around for forever (approx: 10 minutes) for a similarly-lengthed dress to mention, and this is the closest we found—different in almost every way to ER’s. To be honest, we were prepared to complain about it, but we’ve seen it on, and on the right (tall) body, it’s awesome. Even if it is a little ’80s. We will add here that we had to call PayPal today, to add a credit card to our “funding sources” or whatever, and we were like, “Is it okay if we make a payment now?” And the guy was like, “You have an unlimited payment amount. $10,000.” Now, obviously, we are not buying anything worth $10,000 on eBay (or anywhere else), but we laughed and were like, “So ‘unlimited’ is actually not unlimited, but $10,000?” He didn’t laugh. Ugh.
Anyway: Lotta Stevenson jersey dress, was $120, now $72

The whole thing, to be honest, makes us itchy for mini-dresses. Call us crazy, but we’re sure with a little DuWop tanner and a good attitude, a mini-dress looks great on more shapes than we might usually think—as long as it fits and isn’t psychological-warfared down a size. miss gina clutch by mabel [Indie Style File]

I first saw Mabel bags at IndieShopping, one of my favorite other indie bloggers.
The bags they make are great, a good mix of big and stylish. My favorite is this Miss Gina Clutch, which has a great big bow and a metal heart for you to hold onto. How sweet is that? ($50)

Alessandra Ambrosio Sexes Up Armani Exchange

While shopping for a new pair of jeans this weekend at Armani Exchange, I noticed that Victoria Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio is now the face of A|X’s Fall Line. Is there anything this girl can’t make look sexy?

Here are a few pics of her promoting the new partnership at Armani Exchange in Soho, New York.

Kate Moss Top Shop AW07 and Christmas Collection
Remember back when the Vogue preview of the Kate Moss Top Shop SS07 collection came out and I was really excited about it? Well, since then I have seen the collection in real life, applauded Photoshop’s ability to beautify cheap material and lowered my expectations for the clothes. While I really don’t like the idea of Top Shop basically recreating some of Kate’s designer wonders from her wardrobe, I can’t deny I’m really excited about some of the designs I see.
With this line, you really need to see the clothes in real life before buying anything. The quality is really so-so and the photos you see are really photoshopped (or taken under clever lighting.) For example, this dress in real life? I felt it in real life last week and was surprised by how bad the quality was. The material was coarse and felt cheap.
Another thing I don’t completely get about the clothes -some of the tops and dresses are very sheer. Yes I realise you simply have to wear a camisole underneath, but it’s hard to find the perfect v-neck camisole to go underneath, preferably made of silk.
When you look through the collections, you would notice that there are sequined T-shirts are an essential part of the collection. The tops aren’t bad, but I’m not sure they’re worth paying 35pounds (tank on the right) for.
OK, so onto the AW07 and Christmas collection:
When the AW07 collection came out in Aug/Sept, I was disappointed. What’s with these preppy clothes? The school girl look is cool up to a point, and pink is certainly past that point.
The one thing I’ve been eyeing has been this Zig Zag dress. Thankfully I’ve been too indecisive to buy it, and it just went on sale on topshop.com. Obviously I’ve bought it now. I love the side where the dress is short and the tie around the neck -gives the dress a unique, stylish twist.
After the disappointing AW07 collection, the new Christmas collection is about to be released. From the photos I’ve seen so far from topshop.com, Gracia magazine and ID, the Christmas collection looks way more fabulous. There are some really cool, edgy little dresses -perfect for the coming Christmas and New Year parties!
I LOVE this dress, especially the patterned beads that look like a belt! It looks so stylish and pretty in the image. I’m trying not to get too excited though, because the dress could possibly be of bad quality in real life.
This ID image got me excited about this Deco style dress. It’s fun, edgy and trendy. I love how the sequined top has a solid fit, and the bottom chiffon skirt bit is soft and flowy.
Here’s the Deco dress again on the right. On the left is a dress that looked decent in Gracia magazine but looks kind of cheap on the topshop webstie. I’m still hoping to try it on in real life though. Who knows?
And then there’s this pleated mini dress. When topshop describes it as mini, it really does looks supremely mini. it doesn’t even go down to Kate’s legs in the ID image! But hopefully it won’t be that short on me since I’m short anyways. It looks demure on the top, but short and young at the bottom.
The Christmas collection is supposed to hit stores on 25th Oct -that’s this Thursday. I can’t wait! I only hope Top Shop stocks enough of my size for once. Clothes-shopping-wise, there’s nothing more annoying than finding a design you like and the shop doesn’t have your size left.

Nike Air Max Lite Trainer [Metro Style Men]
Nike is re-issueing the Air Max Lite Trainers which originally launched in 89. There has really not been much changes in trainers, Nike, Addidas or whichever. Maybe because I have not been paying much attention to them. It just seems like all this major sports labels like to revive some old designs …..

Pig Sty: Belgian police sound a lot like the cops …
pig sty
Belgian police sound a lot like the cops in Superbad. Officers patrolling the red light district of Brussels have been ordered to lay off the hookers and booze. “These officers think their duty hours are to be used to drink alcohol in bars, practice sports… visit brothels or massage parlors, and entertain (intimate) relationships with residents of the neighborhood during their patrol,” the Belgian police chief wrote in a letter to errant employees. So far, no hedonist policemen have been prosecuted. [Reuters]
