Bath & Body Works: Can’t Break the Habit

For years I’ve been telling myself that I’ve outgrown Bath & Body Works. My shower is filled with Jo Malone, L’Occitane, and niche brands like elizabeth W. My body creams are from Tocca and Bond No. 9. Why do I need Bath & Body Works? I used that stuff in high school!

But then I find myself sneaking in there, time after time, falling prey to way-too-knowledgeable saleswomen and pretty packaging. And you know what? I am not going to feel guilty about it anymore!

Bath & Body Works has come a long way since the days when everyone had a bottle of Sun-Ripened Raspberry Body Splash in their school locker.

The new Blackberry Amber was far more sophisticated than I had been expecting, and I found myself suddenly pondering the “Buy 3 Get 1 Free” deal. I’m still a sucker for Japanese Cherry Blossom, Coconut Lime Verbena and Sensual Amber, so I had to pick up some of those, too.

Their new three-in-ones (not that I ever use them as shampoo though) give Philosophy a run for their money. The Iced Tea Twist smells exactly like Lemon Nestea, summer in a bottle.

The new candles and home fragrances are created by expert Harry Slatkin, with great results. Pumpkin is so delicious, warm and spicy, and Winter smells like a softer version of Gap Holiday.

And let’s not forget that you can buy Fekkai, St. Tropez, Molton Brown and many other luxe brands at Bath & Body Works, too. Really, there are no more excuses not to shop there, even if your tastes run more to the Frederic Malles of the world than the Cool Cucumbers.

So the next time you’re in there and you see a crazed girl lugging around two huge bags of goodies, it may very well be me.

The Hills Season 3

Season 3 of The Hills is rumoured to be its last season, (because supposedly, Lauren doesn’t want cameras to follow her everywhere anymore.) I don’t know how many of you watch the Hills or read enough paprazzi to know drama between the characters, but I’m not going to get into it here. Yes, I know the so-called ‘reality’ isn’t quite reality, but sometimes it’s just funny watching how dumb and annoying people can get. Plus even more importantly, their clothes look too fantastic not to watch! It’s sort of like watching a ‘reality’, Lalaland-version of Sex and the City mixed with Gossip Girl.

The first thing that I noticed about Season 3 is that the clothes have become more fabulous than before! In episode 1, Audrina looked amazing in this silver dress, (which is by Alice + Olivia). It’s perfect for this summer (short, super short,) and a good choice for a date + clubbing.

Throughout the season, there has been scenes of Lauren and Whitney at the Teen Vogue office. Strangely (uh huh,) they didn’t actually do much other than compliment on each other’s clothes and reviewing Lauren’s feelings about things that had just happened to herself. It’s always nice to see the clean, pretty interior of the office of Teen Vogue.
And there are scenes of Heidi and Spencer being annoying together. I swear Heidi’s decisions never really make sense to me. And Spencer should really shave everyday.

In Season 3, Heidi has felt the need to flash her new assets every oppurtunity possible. Those dresses are seriously low-cut!

Somehow I feel like I’ve got a similar personality as Lauren, so I really like watching Lauren’s funny expressions and reactions to situations.
We’re going to miss Lauren’s headbands!
One thing I really liked about the show was the group hanging out at cool hot spots. Everything just looks so chic.

Maybe even more importantly, the girls just talking with themselves. It’s so nice to hear sort of normal conversations on TV. It’s sort of like watching yourself talk with your friends, except they live together (-so jealous!) And any show that has such a strong friendship element in it is definitely my thing!

And of course I’m going to miss the drama. Real or not, it’s just so entertaining!

Thankfully, (unfortunately if you hate them,) the cast will probably still be attending events and be photographed for another while. I can’t wait to see them in new, fun party dresses. Here, the girls are at the The Hills’ Season 3 premiere party. The FCUK dress Lo’s wearing is still available at FCUK stores in a few colours. It’s actually affordable so I really have to get myself to a store to try it on!
This is one of my favourite Lauren outfits. LOVE the Alexander Wang dress on her. It’s prettier and chicer than most of her plain dresses, but still simple enough to be ‘her’.

I read that they’re still filming. When is Season 3 going to end? I hope not anytime soon because it’s one of the things where I get LA style inspirations from. Anyways, the Hills is still on air so don’t forget to tune in!

Rag Trade: Valentino Really Can’t Get A Break

  • Poor Valentino! After watching various private equity firms duke it out for control of the fashion house he founded; telling the media over and over again that he is totally 100% absolutely not retiring; announcing his retirement; and then naming his successor, the guy finally manages to score the lifetime achievement award at the Fashion Rocks event in London last week… only to lose the statuette. (And then find it!) [I wonder if he prayed to St. Anthony, the patron saint of ignoring me. -Moe] [NY Post]

Bento Beauty Tip: How to Apply Geisha Makeup [Beauty Bento Box]

I’d like to list the actual cosmetics used in Geisha makeup but I reckon it’ll be more practical for most to make do with what makeup are readily available but can also work. I hope traditionalists won’t get offended by this.

Things you need are:

Wax or oil substance
White powder and water
Pencil Eyeliner Brown/Copper
Liquid Eyeliner Black
Eyeshadow Red and Brown/Copper
Red Lipstick

There are key things you should remember when applying the Geisha makeup. The wax is important so that the white foundation that you will apply all over the face, neck and nape will stick or last. The red dots applied at the corner ends of both eyes are key to the look. The red lipstick will prove to be a handy cosmetic since it can be used for the dots (just don’t forget to pat and blend). Finally, the lip makeup is meant to illustrate a small mouth because I learned that, by custom, Japanese men find them attractive and sensual.

The video will help you learn how to apply the makeup and look like a Geisha makeup. If the video isn’t enough, here’s a fantastic illustration of the Geisha makeup application process. If you wish to learn more on the history behind the makeup and all things Geisha, Wikipedia helps.

‘Green is the New Black’ — New Book [Chic By Nature]

I was hanging out at the bookstore near my house this morning — I love books! — when I spotted ‘Green is the New Black’ on the new arrivals table.

Of course, I picked a copy up!

The book, written by Tamsin Blanchard and has a foreword by supermodel Lily Cole, is all about my favorite thing — green fashion! From a quick skim through, it appears as though Blanchard is firmly entrenched in the fashion side of the world, she recognizes the need for the fashion world to become green. She also is an advocate of developing your personal style and making the most of your wardrobe by being creative and minimalist.

I’m excited to read it, after which I’ll give a full review. Meanwhile, check out what Treehugger and Hippy Shopper had to say about it.

Tamsin also has a “Green is the New Black ” blog. Check it out by clicking here.

On the Other Hand, I love This Tee! [The Daily Tee]

On the Other Hand is a one hilarious tee from Turtlehead, a funny T-shirt designer whom I featured on Tshirt island last August. The Irish label has been quite aggressive in promoting its brand through sponsorship on some apparel blog such as Andy’s Hide Your Arms.

This tee was sent to me for a sample review purpose*. Like other Turtlehead’s tees, On the Other Hand also occupy American Apparel’s 100% cotton tee with screen printed image on it.

More picture after this!
The packaging…

Nice post card!

A closer look

T-shirt’s tag (also American Apparel Tag on the back)

This tee was posted to me at no charge; actual products might be slightly different from what you see here. Please contact Turtlehead if you have any question about this tee.
