Crap Email From A Dude: “I Know You Hate Me But…”

Kate’s boyfriend Jonathan was an untrustworthy asshole. He also happened to be very good at sex. He was so good at sex he could get her to do things she wouldn’t normally do, things that will be made clear when you read the email that made her sufficiently complicit in the crapdom of the email that follows. (That we will be the first to admit she sorta had it coming to her.) Nevertheless we do not cast stones here at Jezebel, especially when it comes to someone who was dumped by the sender of the email the day after she had his abortion, only to begin dating a mutual friend of hers, only to ask the (at this point, formerly mutual) friend to marry him, only to commence fooling around with Kate again! (Her excuse: “I heart multiple orgasms.”) Anyway, a few weeks ago she finally broke it off for good, only to receive this the other night.

well you might be upset about this.

but

well the pics you sent me. i sent them to a blog site sometime back. i was going to tell you about it but by the time i got the chance i forgot (I really did). well you are a huge hit on the site everyone loves the pics and they want more. i hope you are not upset at me. i didn’t tell them your name or how to get in contact with you. the site is from Europe so no one will know you off of it.

i hope you are not mad at me for that. see i wasn’t the only one who thought the pics where hot.

Sibling Survivalries: Are First-Borns More Successful Than Younger Siblings?

You’ve probably heard the sterotype that first-born children are leaders and go-getters, whereas their younger siblings are spoiled troublemakers. Several scientific studies are finding that there’s truth behind that thinking, reports the Wall Street Journal. The piece is a response to a larger story by Jeffrey Kluger in the new issue of Time, which asserts that birth order influences behavior in several ways:

Families bestow greater resources and attention on the first-born, and eldest children often adopt the role of caretaker toward younger siblings. A Philippine study found that later-born siblings weigh less than earlier-borns. According to a Norwegian study, the eldest child enjoys on average a three-point IQ advantage over the next eldest sibling, a gap attributed to the older kids’ roles as mentors to the younger children. These advantages might explain why eldest children are overrepresented among board directors, M.B.A.s and surgeons.

The WSJ article by Robin Moroney also states that within families, the youngest children tend to have to struggle for attention — and in doing so resort to subversive behavior. Moroney notes that this isn’t always to their disadvantage: “Some of the most famous satirists have been later-borns — Jonathan Swift, Mark Twain and Stephen Colbert.” Later-borns are also more willing to take on risk, says Frank Sulloway, a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley. But when you throw fame into the mix, it creates a situation in which we do not know who is better off: Jessica or Ashlee Simpson? Kim Kardashian or her 9-year-old pole dancing sister? Paris or Nicky Hilton? Ben or Casey Affleck? Luke or Owen Wilson? Nick or Aaron Carter?

Cole Haan Shoes

To be honest, I’ve never felt much for Cole Haan shoes. They were just one of those classic American brands that I keep getting confused with Kenneth Cole. But walking into the store the other day, drawn by the sales sign, I was quite impressed with their shoe collection this season, especially the ones with their Nike Air cushioning feature. This has probably been around for forever, but I just found out recently. So excuse my babbling….Ever since my summer experience, I’ve wanted a pair of quality black pumps as I’ve finally realized the tremendous importance of it in professional wear. Ideally it would be comfortable and the made just right. A pair of perfect Prada black pump jumps to mind. But alas, they are quite out of my reach at the moment. And to be fair, I probably wouldn’t want to wear it daily anyway. Hence, when I saw these Fiona’s at the Cole Haan store, I fell in love. They shape is made just right. The height is great. The quality is good. It is cheaper than a pair of Pradas (at around $300, though I’ll probably wait until it goes on sale to make the final kill). And to top all that, it has Nike Air cushioning embedded in the front for comfort. Now I don’t know if this is a new thing or not, but what a genius idea! I tried it on. It really makes all the difference. At 3 1/2″, it is very very very comfortable. And I’d give much to be comfortable and chic. Oh and these also come in plain leather, but I thought the patent leather version gives it a bit more of a oomph. Anyway, some more beauties from this comfortable and chic collection. The Carma. For a pair of peep toes, I think these are quite nice as it peeps just enough. And I have a thing for platforms heels. These also come in patent leather and plain leather and all the classic colors, but I just thought I’d show this one just to spice it up a little. At 4″, these Dalya are just the thing to wear for a casual day out and into the night. With sturdy chunky heels (which are so cool), platforms AND the cushioning thing, you won’t have to rest. Plus, I love the patent leather and suede combo here. And this wine red color is just great if one wants a pair of red shoes, but don’t want to it to be too flashy i.e. ME! Then, they have boots. I love the folding thing here. It adds simple detail without being too much. Though I’m not too sure about the squarish looking heel here….though at 4″ I guess you need it for extra support. I like the slimmer heels here better. Though of course these two are going after completely different looks. One is simple and classic and the other has more details and is more feminine.

So yes, after seeing this collection and falling love with the Fiona, I don’t think I’m going to confuse Cole Haan with Kenneth Cole anymore!

Strange but True: AVON’s High School Musical Bubble Bath [The Scented Life: All about fragrance]

This sounds like something from The Onion, but apparently it’s real.  Avon has created one of their signature bubble baths (my grandma used to use these all the time!!!)

I have no idea what this smells like.  I’ve never even seen the show and couldn’t sing any of the songs if I wanted to.   I find the whole phenomenon…odd.  And Zac Efron is totally the new Clay Aiken, if you know what I mean.

It’s on sale for only $5.99 at Avon.com!

Veske i posten

The Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure [Burning The Scale]

Tomorrow I will be getting up super early (before six AM) to go to my local Race For the Cure. I already have my T-shirt and number, although I don’t have a chip because I won’t be racing competitively. For me, this is a way to get some good exercise (it’s a 5k) and support a worthy cause.

This is actually the first time I’ve done this race, although every time it rolls around I find myself thinking, “I should really do that…but who would I do it with?” This year I’ll be with my in-laws, so I won’t have to go by myself.

You can visit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure site for more information about the races (although I see that they’ve already taken place in most cities).

Speaking of breast cancer awareness, Dexie over at Style It Less is having a “Show Me Your Pink Stuff” contest. Prizes include some of my favorite drugstore beauty items by the brand Yes To Carrots. You can find out more about it here.

Good luck!

Claire

Award Winners: Doris Lessing Says Fuck Discretion, Writes About Pits

Our admiration for Nobel Prize winner Doris Lessing grows with each passing day. Not only is she amazingly forthright, she also fought American publishers for the right to describe a woman’s armpit hair in minute detail. In addition, she thoroughly relished writing about pubes! The American Prospect quotes from Lessing’s memoir, Under My Skin:

When I wrote [classic novel ‘The Golden Notebook’], for a long time I hesitated about describing the [heroine’s] joy in her pubic hair, young and glossy, and growing in three perfect little swirls. But I knew there would be a fuss and if this was a question of principle, then it wasn’t my principle.

Later, in the 1970s, I wrote a story called One off the Short List, and in it a woman is described as having golden fringes of underarm hair. An American publisher, and then magazines, would not print the story because of that hair. Yet in America you might describe any killings, tortures, rapes, horrors of war, cruelties. Not underarm hair in a story about seduction and sex. But I insisted, for by then, it was a matter of principle.

Jezebels will always applaud standing up for your principles, Doris. Especially when it involves saying fuck discretion.
