Callin’ all High Street Honeyz out der!

Having started the blog in a not so great financial position and with the aim of showing that fashion does not necessarily mean massive expenditure, I am slightly ashamed that as I am now in a more comfortable financial situation, and the ratio of vintage/designer/indie/boutique buys to high street is now weighted more towards the former than the latter.  It’s not that I’m necessarily buying more expensive things as I’m still a jumble sale/charity shop junkie.  But rather, I’m slowly and surely withdrawing from the high street in favour for things elsewhere because I can afford to do so when living in London and travelling.  Admiration for high street honeyz (a derogatory UK FHM phrase….but comically applicable here…) continues though.  For instance, I’m amazed at how people like Agathe can find gems from H&M and dress head to toe in it without looking like a shop dummy.

Still, the high street honey in me does emerge at times there are still benefits to be had.  The things in my wardrobe that have recently been getting the most attention and questions are things under £35 quid.  I realise vocal compliments from other people isn’t necessarily complete validation for your purchases but naturally they do give you a bit of a boost when you’re out and about.

First up, there’s this black tote from Topshop which I bought in a haste to use for days when I have to lug around the whole shebang (laptop, camera, notebooks, mags, tripod…. all blogging essentials) and I don’t want to look like a bag lady so I’ll let the one bag overtake me instead.  It then funnily emmerged that the black patent triangles on the bag was a homage to the AW07-8 Gareth Pugh leather triangled trousers which have just arrived at Browns (it was a little odd when I stood next to the Gareth Pugh dummy in Colette and it looked like I was there to pay my respects to the Pugh-meister…).  Still, people can’t seem to believe it’s Topshop (I don’t think the bag went online…) and have been giving it their approving nods all round - I can’t work out whether it’s the size (people apparently still like trumping each other with their bag size…) or the patent triangles…

Then there are these Irregular Choice shoes that were on sale and I had a discount code.  It was a bit of a pleasant surprise that they arrived with this slightly curved block heel as I foolishly didn’t spot this.  I have on occasion scratched my head a little at IR shoe designs and declared some of them ‘odd for the sake of being odd’.  But these chunky heeled cut-out brogue-esque black textured, speckled leather shoes (excuse the long description) are surprisingly all-purpose.  Yet at the same time, there’s something about them that seems to get people complimenting.

High Street Honey I’m not, but it’s good to know that at a time when it seems fast, affordable fashion is reaching saturation point (at least for me…), that gems still exist and I’ll hold my hands up and say that the high street purchases aren’t halting anytime soon.
