Mineral Makeup Review : UGloGirl Minerals

For all girly girls out there, have you tried the mineral makeup brand UGloGirl? It is one of the new brands making a mark on the mineral makeup world for their slogan “Girly girl”. It is defined in their website as:
“AGELESS (from 1 to 101!), SMART, CONFIDENT & CLASSIC
SHE’S STYLISH AND ALWAYS UP WITH THE TRENDS BUT KNOWS WHEN TO
LET HER HAIR DOWN AND HAVE A GOOD TIME…….AND YEAH….SHE CAN’T GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT HER FAVORITE LIPSTICK,
YET SHE IS NOT ABOVE HERSELF. INDEED SHE HAS A KIND SOUL AND
RESPECTS THE WORLD AND WHAT’S NATURAL AROUND HER….. HER HEART IS GOLD,
BUT HER LIPS ARE PINK!”
They have the full line of mineral makeup plus their own skin care line which a lot of women swear by for giving great results. I tried out their mineral foundation in Buttercup, SoftGlo Finishing powder in Original Translucent and in Soft Lilac plus a freebie Petale blush which Melissa, the owner, included in the package. I wanted to try out her pressed mineral blush but the color I wanted was out of stock at that time. Their samples came in jars with their signature girly girl logo on the cap.
Buttercup foundation was a perfect match. I applied 2 layers since it offered light to medium coverage for me. It was light and silky on the face probably due to its silica content. It held on for the whole day without making me too oily (usually I am an oil slick by the end of the day) and covered most of my blemishes without me having to apply concealer. I put on the SoftGlo finisher in Translucent beneath the foundation as a primer and the Soft Lilac as a corrector after the foundation. It gave a soft glow finish but not overly shiny. The Petale blush I applied last. This one needs to be applied with a light hand since it is much pigmented. I applied in the usual amount I use for mineral blushes but ended up putting another layer of foundation on top of it because I looked like a clown! Thumbs up for this one. It gave a natural flush if applied lightly. Overall, I looked glowing but not shiny. I didn’t look like I had make-up on but instead a ‘fresh from the outdoors’ look. I love it. Also, Melissa has such great customer service. Another plus for her company. Go try UGloGirl now.

Reader Question: Tights
We got a lovely letter from Lauren, who not only asked about tights, but wished us well with our eye surgeries. We genuinely thank her (and everyone) for their well-wishes. We got implantable collamer lenses, so we’re basically like a cyborg with contact lens implanted in our eyes. But that does not help Lauren and her tights issue. Here it is:
Anyway–it’s super hard to find good opaque tights. I find that so many are slightly sheer when on (maybe its more a problem of thighs?) and then they remind me of "pantyhose." Hose. Hate that. So maybe everyone including the authors of this site can give their recs for really really really opaque tights.
We can totally relate to this issue - tights seem like the most simple thing to buy in the world. But if they’re crappy quality, they look spotty. If they’re not opaque enough, it’s like HELLO SKIN. If they’re just slightly too small, you will be constantly pulling them up at the most inopportune moments (as we learned yesterday), and too big will bag at the knees. The opacity question is hard. Lucky magazine just recommended Nordstrom’s housebrand tights as the most opaque, but their website picture almost contradicts that. They’re only $10, but still. They also only have control top on their site, but hopefully they have non-binding in the stores.
Nordstrom Opaque Control Top Tights, $10
We’ve always liked Hue. Loads of colors, and pretty solid from what we can remember. In fact, we’ve always bought Hue. Which means we’re out of ideas.
Hue Cotton Microfiber Tights, $11
Anyone else have ideas for Lauren?

MAC FIX+

For me, MAC Fix+ is like the Holy Water of the cosmetics world. Formulated with vitamins, minerals and skin-soothing green tea, chamomile and cucumber, this spray is magic.
With a few light mists, it melds foundation, powder and blush together. The result is a finished look, where makeup looks almost airbrushed on, and even if you’re wearing a foundation with more coverage, it will just look like great skin, not like a caked-on catastrophe. Fix+ also sets makeup, acting like an invisible, weightless shield that protects makeup throughout the day. The setting power of Fix+ is truly remarkable.
This is one product you really must experience to believe. So go ahead, girl; spray on that gorgeousness!

wet dreams (deferred)
Well, Ann Coulter is still a sick joke of a human being, but apparently her letter of truth from this morning was the fabrication of some ingenious hackers. Click on the tag for a screenshot of the doctored webpage.

Flared Jeans
For the past year, I’ve been imagining myself in a pair of plain, black, flared jeans and a simple top. For one thing, flared jeans, in my mind, form part of the going-to-college image. Another thing is, even though I’ve been favouring the long top and straight/ skinny jeans look in the last year or two, I’ve got short tops that just don’t go well with skinny jeans.
But apparently, finding a pair of such simple jeans was a lot harder than I thought. I visited Barney’s, Saks and Neiman Marcus near Rodeo Drive and hardly found any bootcut jeans available -All they had were skinny or high waisted, wide-legged jeans.
So I lowered my expectations and decided that I would even settle for a pair of washed, boot-cut jeans (like the Citizens of Humanity ones above.) In San Francisco, even though the new Bloomingdale’s offered a wider selection of jeans, I still couldn’t find my dream pair. Luckily, one of you readers suggested I go to the Blues Jean Bar -I loved it there! (Thanks for suggesting I go there btw.) You tell the saleslady what you’re looking for and the size and they just pull out a few choices from their shelves. Normally I would hate a store that doesn’t organise its clothes by brand names, but this is one exception.
One of the saleslady’s recommendation was the new J Brand’s Lovestory jeans, (technically, low-rise bell-bottom jeans.) The saleslady wasn’t sure about them since they looked more like pants than jeans, but I tried them on and love them! The material is really elastic and they’re tight on top and flares out at the knees, so they’re comfortable, fits well and look good. If you haven’t worn a pair of flared jeans in a while, go try a pair on! It’s such a refreshing feeling, (and perhaps slightly odd since it’s been awhile.) (I found out later that Kate Moss supposedly wore them in blue recently.)
The truth is, finding jeans that match what you want isn’t actually that difficult -just go onto www.shopbop.com. But I’m one of those careful people and I wouldn’t buy jeans unless I’ve tried them on, meaning that I’m limited to the choices sold in shops. Anyways, anyone else been trying on flared jeans again recently? And I don’t mean bootcut, I mean flared!

Txell Miras
I didn’t covered any of the two Spanish fashion weeks, because I think they didn’t worth it. But Txell Miras is the exception to that rule. Her clothes have something that attracts you, and the good tailoring helps.
Moreover, she has an impressive background. She is the designer of Neil’s Barret womenswear, she has won several prizes over the last years and she’s one of the most promising designers out there.
