“You may say that you’d never lose your cool like Carol Gotbaum. You’re not an alcoholic. You’re not a depressive. You are supremely self-controlled. Good for you. Right now. Today.” That’s Judith Warner on the month’s weirdest pointless death that was pointlessly and tragically concealed from her husband when he called 911. Yeah, I know, a downer. (Almost enough to make a person a reckless, depressive alcoholic! Oh wait…) Also, from the funeral: “The central teaching of both Judaism and Christianity is to love your neighbor as yourself.” Aw! Remember that this weekend when you are trying not to love alcohol above all things. [NY Times]
